C5A Visa Timeline — Week-by-Week From Enquiry to Arrival

The C5A Content Creator Visa takes roughly 2–4 weeks to process from outside Indonesia, on top of the days you spend gathering documents. You must apply before arrival — there is no in-country conversion from a tourist visa — so we advise starting the full timeline at least four to six weeks before your first shoot.

“How long does the C5A actually take?” is the first question almost every creator asks us, usually with a flight already booked and a brand deadline looming. The honest answer has two parts: the government processing window — roughly 2–4 weeks once your file is submitted — and the preparation window before that, which depends entirely on how quickly your documents come together. This page maps the entire journey stage by stage, so you know exactly when to start.

As a licensed visa agency and the corporate guarantor that files these cases, we control most of the timeline for you — sponsor documents, the e-Visa submission and immigration follow-up all sit on our side. What we cannot control is how fast you send your passport scan and proof of funds, and how long Indonesian immigration takes to approve. Understanding which stages you own and which we own is the key to a smooth, deportation-proof trip. If you are still deciding whether you even need the C5A, start with our C5A vs tourist visa comparison; if you are ready to move, our application process guide pairs with this timeline.

The C5A visa timeline at a glance

Here is the full week-by-week path from your first enquiry to arrival and, if you need it, extension. The stages you control are marked accordingly — the faster you complete those, the sooner the 2–4 week processing clock can start.

Stage by stage: what happens in each phase

The table above is the map; here is the detail behind each stage, so nothing surprises you.

  • Day 0 — consultation and eligibility check. We start by confirming the C5A is the right visa for your trip. It covers commercial content — sponsored posts, brand collaborations, commercial shoots and barter stay-for-content deals — but not remote work for a foreign employer or local employment. If your activity fits, we lock in your shoot dates and work the timeline backwards from them.
  • Document collection. This is the stage you own, and it is usually what decides whether your trip runs on schedule. You will need a passport valid at least six months beyond travel, a passport photo, proof of funds, a return or onward ticket and links to your portfolio or channels. Our full C5A requirements and documents guide lists every item with the exact specifications, so you can assemble it in one pass rather than three.
  • Guarantor / sponsor letter. Every C5A applicant needs a registered Indonesian legal entity as guarantor — actively operating, with verified funds and no legal disputes. That is us. Because the C5A index is not fully self-service in the e-Visa portal, the guarantor or agent files it on your behalf. We prepare these sponsor documents in parallel with your document collection, so this stage rarely adds to your wait. Our corporate guarantor and sponsor page explains exactly what we take on.
  • e-Visa filing. As soon as your documents and our sponsor pack are both ready, we submit the application through the official e-Visa portal. The moment we file is the moment the 2–4 week processing clock starts — which is why we push hard to close out document collection quickly.
  • Processing. Indonesian immigration reviews the file. From outside Indonesia this typically takes around 2–4 weeks. We monitor the case and respond to any immigration queries on your behalf during this window.
  • Approval and e-visa issuance. On approval, your e-visa arrives by email. You print it and carry it for your flight — there is no embassy visit and no physical passport stamp required beforehand.
  • Arrival. You enter Indonesia on the C5A for an initial 60-day stay. Note that the visa is single-entry: leaving Indonesia ends it, so plan any regional side-trips accordingly.
  • Extensions. If your campaign runs long, the C5A extends twice, 60 days at a time, at Bali immigration offices — a maximum stay of 180 days. Details of that process are in our extension and renewal guide.

Express vs standard processing: what you can and cannot speed up

Creators often ask whether they can “rush” the C5A. The useful distinction is between the parts we can accelerate and the part nobody can. On our side, priority handling means we prepare your sponsor documents, review your paperwork and file your application faster — closing the gap between your enquiry and the day immigration receives a complete file. That genuinely shortens your total timeline.

What no agency can compress is the immigration processing window itself. Once the application is filed, review time sits with the Directorate General of Immigration, and the realistic expectation remains around 2–4 weeks from outside Indonesia. There is no guaranteed “same-day” C5A, and anyone promising a fixed 48-hour approval is describing their own filing speed, not an immigration guarantee. The single biggest lever you hold is getting your documents in early — a complete file filed on day two beats a scattered one filed on day ten, every time.

How many weeks before your shoot should you start?

Our planning rule: start the C5A at least four to six weeks before your first shoot date, and sooner in busy periods. Processing alone runs 2–4 weeks; document collection and sponsor preparation happen before that clock even starts. Booking a brand campaign three days before you fly is the most common reason creators are forced onto the wrong visa — and into the crackdown’s line of fire.

Work backwards from your earliest commercial commitment, not your flight. If your first sponsored shoot is on the 30th, the C5A needs to be approved by the 29th, which means filing a complete application several weeks earlier. For creators juggling multiple deals or a fixed campaign date, the extra buffer is not caution — it is the difference between arriving on a valid creator visa and improvising on a tourist visa that Indonesian immigration now actively polices. Our Bali visa crackdown 2026 briefing explains why that margin matters more in 2026 than ever.

Why you cannot start the clock after you land

This is the timeline mistake that costs creators the most. A brand deal lands mid-holiday, and they assume they can upgrade their tourist visa at a local immigration office. They cannot. The C5A must be applied for from outside Indonesia — there is no conversion from a tourist visa or the e-VOA to a C5A once you are in the country. If commercial content is anywhere on your itinerary, the C5A has to be secured before you fly.

There is a structural reason built into the timeline, too: because every applicant needs a registered corporate guarantor and the C5A index is filed by that guarantor rather than self-served, the visa simply cannot be a spontaneous, in-country decision. Working on tourist status while you wait exposes you to fines, deportation and multi-year re-entry bans — Indonesian immigration monitors Instagram to identify violators, and since May 2026 even unpaid or barter collaborations count as work because they carry economic value. The full legal picture is in our guide to what the C5A visa is.

After approval: arrival and the extension timeline

Your C5A gives an initial 60-day stay on arrival. If your campaign or shoot schedule needs longer, you extend at Bali immigration offices — twice, 60 days each time — for a maximum of 180 days in a single visit. Each extension is applied for in-country before your current permission expires, so build extension dates into your shoot calendar the same way you built in your arrival date. Because the visa is single-entry, leaving Indonesia ends it; if you need to hop to Singapore mid-project, you would return on a fresh application, not the same C5A.

Costs run alongside this timeline in three transparent parts — our service fee (from USD 449), the government e-visa fee and sponsor fees — with each extension carrying its own immigration fee. We separate every line in your quote so you can plan cash flow against the calendar; the full breakdown is in our cost and fees guide. If you want us to map your specific shoot dates onto this timeline, send us your travel window and we will work the calendar backwards for you.

Quick answers

How long does the C5A visa take to process?

From outside Indonesia, C5A processing typically takes around 2–4 weeks once a complete application is filed. That figure covers immigration review only — you should add the time it takes to collect your documents (passport, proof of funds, onward ticket, portfolio links) before filing, which varies from applicant to applicant.

Can I speed up the C5A timeline with express processing?

Partly. Priority handling lets us prepare your sponsor documents and file your application faster, shortening the run-up before submission. But the immigration processing window itself — roughly 2–4 weeks — is set by the Directorate General of Immigration and cannot be guaranteed shorter. There is no official same-day C5A approval.

How far before my trip should I apply for the C5A?

We recommend starting at least four to six weeks before your first shoot date, and sooner during busy periods. Because processing alone runs 2–4 weeks and document collection happens beforehand, working backwards from your earliest commercial commitment — not your flight — is the safest way to arrive on a valid creator visa.

Can I start the C5A application after I arrive in Bali?

No. The C5A must be applied for from outside Indonesia before arrival, and there is no in-country conversion from a tourist visa or e-VOA. You also need a registered Indonesian corporate guarantor to file it. If any commercial content is on your itinerary, arrange the C5A first and enter Indonesia already holding it.
